I specialize in problems related to addiction – a catch-all word encompassing problematic habits of substance or process use.

Most addictions fill a need in someone’s life. But if addictions were non-toxic, we would call them something else; hobby, coping skill, or interest. Our minds are biologically programmed to seek pleasure and avoid pain, but choosing short-term pleasure which ultimately causes longer-term pain is not a desirable behavior. Poor choices can be harmful or fatal to yourself and others. The good news is that everyone is capable of making better choices.

Stopping using and drinking can help flip the script from “I want out of my life” to “what do I want out of my life?” (We came up with that in the SMART Recovery meeting I facilitate.)
